The Reiki Principles are seen as one of the most valuable tools we have in Reiki.

Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, thought that if you applied these principles, along with receiving Reiki, that you would have the "secrets of happiness" for the mind, body, and soul. The Reiki Principles are listed below.

Just for today, do not worry.

Worry, creates an energy leak and deals with perceived future events and happenings.
Although worry may not always be seen as negative, it is better to disregard thoughts of future events and circumstances over which we have no control. Fear of change is the source of worry, again something we do not always have complete control over. 


Just for today, do not be angry.

Anger can be a vast destructive force; it hurts others as well as ourselves. Anger closes us off from love and compassion. Anger deals with past and present events.
Try to detach yourself from situations you feel are engendering any feelings of anger; do not just suppress the feeling for it to return another time. Anger will create a massive leak of the vital energy force from our systems. Constantly remind yourself that anger is not your real nature and as such it will pass, try to acknowledge it, witness it and then let it go forever.
Remember the opposite of anger is calmness.


Honor your parents, teachers and elders.


They are here to help and guide us and as we are growing up they will show us love and shelter us from many of life’s problems. This principle is also about forgiveness and about rising up to your higher self, it will enable you to begin to forgive those who have hurt, angered, obstructed and criticised you. These people can be the hardest people in our lives to forgive and by learning from the lessons taught we are able to move forward. Your parents, teachers and elders deserve honor because they only want what is best for us.

Just for today, earn your living honestly.

This is about being honest with yourself. You want to be happy but are you doing something about it or are you just sitting about in self pity and surrounding yourself in negativity? This principle will help you find what really excites you in life and help you turn your dreams into reality. It is also about giving every situation 100% effort, regardless of whether it's what you really want to do or not


Just for today, show grattitude to every living thing.

By living in a state of appreciation, gratitude and giving thanks for the many blessings of life we can help transform negative attitudes and thoughts into positive ones.
When we are grateful for everything we have received, and when we believe that we will continue to receive these things then we will attract abundance.

This is about saying thank you to other people and other living beings as well as yourself. Do you say thank you for each opportunity? Do you praise and thank others?




The word 'Healing' means to heal the whole body - physical, emotional and mental. It is important to remember that in healing, a positive mental attitude helps our own  body to heal.

As a healer I try to live life according to the Traditional Reiki Principles. This allows me to work more effectively as a healer and hence allows me to help you (the recipient) more deeply.
