Tracing the lineage

This natural healing modality originates in Tibet. The name "Reiki" comes from the technique as re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist in the early 20th Century.  He was the founder of a form of spiritual practice known as Reiki used as a complimentary therapy for the treatment of emotional, physical and mental diseases.  It is said that he taught Reiki to over 2000 people during his lifetime.  Sixteen of these students continued their training to reach the Shinpiden level, a level equivalent to our Western 3rd degree or Master level.  Dr Usui died on 9th March 1926 of a stroke.

Anyone can learn to tap into an unlimited supply of 'life force energy' to improve health and enhance the quality of life by learning Reiki, or by receiving treatments from a Reiki Practitioner or Master.

Kenda Reiki

Kenda is a Native American word meaning"Magical Powers" and seemed the perfect name for my new venture.  Reiki (pronounced 'ray-key') is a technique that aids the body in releasing stress and tention by creating deep relaxation.  Because of this, Reiki promtes healing and health.  The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means "the higher power" and Ki which means "life force energy".

The Reiki system of healing is a technique for transmitting this subtle energy to yourself and others through the hands into the human energy system.  Reiki restores energy balance and vitality by relieving the physical and emotional effects of unreleased stress.  It gently and effectively opens the blocked chakras and clears the body's ebergy, leaving you feeling relaxed and at peace.

Reiki can:

  • Accelerate healing
  • Assist the body in cleansing toxins
  • Balance the flow of subtle energy by releasing blockages
  • Help the client contact the 'healer within.'

What to expect

A Reiki treatment feels like warm, gentle sunshine which flows through you, surrounds you and comforts you. Reiki treats the recipient’s body, emotions, mind and spirit as a whole. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.  It does not replace or compete with medical treatment.

Reiki is powerful, yet wonderfully gentle and nurturing. During a treatment, you will remain fully clothed. Reiki is an effective alternative, or complement to massage therapy. Reiki supports any medical, or supplemental healing methods you may be using and is of growing interest to chiropractors, medical doctors, physiotherapists, psychotherapists, psychologists and hypnotherapists.

During a Reiki treatment, both the Reiki practitioner and the recipient may feel Reiki sensations. A practitioner’s hands will often heat up as a result of the flow coursing through her palms. The recipient frequently feels sleepy and yawns repeatedly as incoming Reiki energies soothe and calm pent-up emotional tension and stress.

You may experience any of the following sensations during a Reiki session: heat or coolness, 'pins-and-needles' tingling, vibrational buzzing (as if the bed is shaking), electrical sparks, numbness, throbbing, itchiness, and as I mentioned already sleepiness.  Some recipients are more in tune with their bodies than others and will be able to share fantastic stories about feeling the different sensations that occur while receiving Reiki. They will talk about experiencing imagery, kinesthesia, and/or inner voices while receiving Reiki.

You may be one of the few that report not feeling any sensation at all.  This does not mean to imply that Reiki did not work on you but more that you missed the subtle signs during and after the session.
